WEEK 6

Tuesday 13th October 2020

Today i went into college to work backstage for a show. When i arrived we watched a run through of the level 2’s show and i noted down key cues and props i needed to put in place.My team and i then gathered the list of props for the other level 1 show and placed them backstage. When we did a show run through, my job was to stay in the wings and open and close the curtains as the actors can on and off stage.

It was good experience getting to know how backstage works and i actually really enjoyed it. At the end of the day it was time for level 1 and 2 to perform their shows. in which i kept the same job of opening the curtains and bringing things on and off stage.

Wednesday 14th October

Today Was my day to catch up on any incomplete work. I managed to complete my designs for the Cheshire Cat, which has been my target for the previous 2 weeks. I also continued worked on mining the text. I managed to complete most of mining the text but I also had 3 more questions to complete as I needed more time on them. I found mining the text a bit tricky so I completed the easiest questions first then gradually built my way up which was a really good way to tackle the harder questions.

Todays session was a good time to work independently and really focus on finishing any work, which I did.

Thursday 15th October

Today I had the job of preparing the props and costumes for the level 3 Drama show after half term. My class mate and I were sent to find a list of things the show needed and we organised each item of clothing onto the clothing rail with a designated name tag.

Some of the props were hard to find, so we had to make one or two.

In the afternoon, I was sent to the theatre to watch the run through of the performance and I had to note down any thing the group still needed. I think we did a good job of organising most of the props we needed, however there were still some props we needed to gather. I liked watching the run through because It gave me clear indication as to what the show is really about and it was really well performed. I really liked the job of organising all of the props for the show, I think this is because I have good organisation skills.

My Target: My target for this week is to finish the last 3 questions for mining the text and complete the half term project.

Half Term Project

My chosen Musician:Lauryn Hill

I have Chosen Lauryn Hill because I find her style interesting and unique. Lauryn Hill’s modern style is known to stand out by being very oversized and different. Her overall style is a combination of 90’s fashion and modern soul, statement clothing.

Her performance costumes are very bold and eye catching, this includes the clothing accessories of overly puffy sleeves and skirts, bold and layered jewellery, and even big hats and sunglasses.

As Lauryn Hill is a solo female musician, I think her style reflects from her powerful and statement making personality. She is a dedicated activist for unprivileged urban youth. She uses her huge platform to spread and address themes such as community, family and self. She symbolises this not only through her lyrics, but also her clothes.

For my costume design for Lauryn Hill, I have been inspired by this look published by vogue which Lauryn Hill wore to a performance. This was a retro inspired spring look from Mark Jacobs and consisted of a technicolour dress with a matching coat and turban.

Taking inspiration from this technicolour dress, I have chosen to re create this in a large puffy skirt form with a matching turban. I have chosen white blue and yellow because I really like they look against black skin. Following from her modern style, I have chosen a plain, large, puffy white top to match with some tall, white platform shoes.

For accessories I am inspired by her large bold jewellery, I have added large silver hoop earrings and chunky silver rings.

WEEK 5

Tuesday 6th October 2020

In todays online session, I was shown a power point all about stage makeup, we went though the difference between stage makeup and tv makeup and the importance of each. We were then assigned a task to complete which was a sheet about stage makeup. It was only two questions and i managed to complete it all in time. 

In the second halves of the online session, i edited my website, i had to add a section below my workshop page with all my team workshops so i completed that and updated my blog. 

Wednesday 7th October 2020

Today, we started the day with a sewing workshop, as i managed to get onto my second mask last week, i got to complete most of it, i went into my break to finish it. I was really happy with the out come and glad that i completed a second mask. 

After this we had a students union talk in the theatre, i learnt about what student union is and the different roles i can become in the college, or hot to speak up if i wanted something changed. 

Next we had a sound workshop where i learnt all the safety hazards when working in sound. i had no experience with this before so it was good to learn the basics of sound. I was also introduced to the sound desk and how to work different channels.  I also demonstrated how to set up a microphone and i think i did a good job considering i had never done it before. 

In the afternoon, i completed a team workshop, we were given a list of costumes we had to create from the clothing in the costume room. i worked really well with my team, we completed all costumes quickly with the help of each other. i really liked working with different people again 

The last task of the day was to collect all the props for the show i need to attend next tuesday, i worked  with my classmate who is also on the show with me. We had help from a year two to find everything, we managed to find everything we needed. 

I also had some time left over to edit my website, this was a really nice end to the day to reflect on my team workshops today. 

Thursday 8th October 2020

Today in the morning we had a theory session, i started the mining the text worksheet, i completed about 4 questions in full detail, i looked through the questions and started with the easier ones. I was really focused in this session. We then had break then i carried on with my work.

in the afternoon, i was sent to the theatre to shadow my classmate who had the role of an ASM, and we watched the

As i had other tasks to complete, i didn’t have time to complete my target: my design for the Cheshire cat however i completed other Alice theory work.

Target: complete all outstanding work, including mining the text and complete my design plan for the Cheshire Cat.
