Tuesday 29th September 2020:

In todays online session I carried on with my website, in which I edited my blog posts and looked at an example website to help me with my workshop page. I struggled at times because I was confusing my blog page with my workshops. I am really happy with how my website is coming along, and I find myself to be learning new things about wix every week, which is making it so much easier for me to edit my website.

In the second half of the online session I completed my 2 careers work, I had to choose two careers which could follow on from theatrical production. I chose Makeup and fashion design. I was happy how quickly I completed this, I think I found it enjoyable because I was passionate about what I was writing. For example I spoke about how my skills compare to a makeup artists skills.

Wednesday 30th September:

Today we started with finishing our face masks, i managed to complete my mask and i didn’t run into any issues, i really liked the final out come. I started making a second face mask and I hope to complete it If I have any spare time next week.

After this we had a session in the theatre where we did some more lighting work using the computers and keyboard, i learnt how to use and create colour pallets. There was a lot of information to take in but i could start to get my head around everything.

Next we did a props session where we were put into small groups, this allowed me to get to know more people in my class. We were set a task to collect all the props from the props list and set them up on a probs table. To set up a props table, we taped a line to separate act 1 and act 2, we taped around each prop in their designated act. I actually really enjoyed this task because i have good organisation skills and i found it a fun challenge to try and find everything from the props cupboard. I think me and the two others in my team worked really well and it made the task really enjoyable. To finish the day off, we completed some theory work, i worked on my character development for the Alice unit. This was a nice chilled session to end the day and i was glad i completed some more written work.

Thursday 1st October:

This morning we had a theory session, i completed my Alice work i needed to, i managed to finish off my research for Alice and my Character development sheet. I felt really glad when i completed my work hecauee

In the afternoon, we had a makeup session, today i learnt how to use artex, i had to mix an equal ratio of A and B and apply it to the skin before it tries. i Made an infection/ disease scar wound on my class mate and i really enjoyed it, it’s a struggle to mould the artex because it is very tacky and dries very quick. Next i created a ware wolf scratch using latex and tissue. i used a technique where i cut 3 claw strikes through the tissue and used colour palettes to make it look as real as possible. i enjoyed this task so much because i got to experiment and try new techniques. I also used the latex to create a slice in my finger, this was really realistic and it looked horrific.

Target: a target for next week is to start complete the task of designing a makeup plan for my character the Cheshire Cat. I really want to start this because I’ve completed most of the written tasks I needed to do and I’m excited to draw up an idea.

Tuesday 22nd September:

In the first halve of todays online session, I carried on with my Wix website. I added to my blog post and with the time I had left I had a useful play around on Wix editor to try and work out how to use various tools. This was really handy as it will help speed things up for me when working on editing my website.

In the second halve of the session, we had an opportunity to go back to our swot sheet and improve it. This time it was really clear on what I had to complete and got through this task really well. I felt like my swot analysis was a lot more detailed and I was happy I completed the task in time.

Wednesday 23rd September:

In todays morning session, we started the day reminding ourselves of basic sewing. This was helpful because I felt that I needed practise before making my face mask. We then chose a fabric from many options as we began follow the step by step instructions on how to make a facemask each. From this fabric we placed the face mask template and sewed the correct pieces of material together. At first I found this a bit complicated but I soon got the hang of it. I managed to get the majority of the mask sewn together, but I will have to finish the last steps next week or so.

Later on, we had a lighting session in which I learnt the basic steps of creating groups for the lighting.

Again, the task I was given was complicated at first but I managed to take notes. I think I could use more prace on this as theres a lot to remember.

Later on in the day, we were given a list of sound effects we had to create. We were put into small groups of 3 which was a really nice opportunity to get to know more class mates who I haven’t spoken to yet. We were given a recorder and were sent off to different parts of the department to use our creativity skills and make sound effects from random objectrs. I found this session really enjoyable and I think my group and I did a good job.

We then chose to do a task, which I chose Makeup. I started off by practising wounds from latex and tissue, I then filled coloured the wound with grease paints and filled the wound with fake blood. I also tried something new which was putting pins and paperclibs through the tissue which was so effective because it looked like skin. I really enjoyed this task as I got to experiment and work independentyly.

To finish the day off, some class mates and I had a go at tattoo cover ups using skin palets. I found this task enjoyable. I also learnt the different ones of skin and how to apply the right skin colour, this was very useful. From my target last week which was to get to know my classmates more, this was a really nice task to get to know and talk to my classmates.

Thursday 24th September

In todays morning session I started the day with filling out a sheet containing theatrical terms and I had to fill the definition for each. I also learnt about the stage positions e.g upstage down stage etc. This task was really helpful as Ive heard these terms before but not knowing what they exactly meant.

After this we were shown how to create a burn effect. i searched for a picture of a real burn for inspiration and it helped me colour match the base of the burn to look as realistic as possible. I really enjoyed this task because I learnt more and got to experiment.

For the final session of the day, carrying on with Makeup, I learnt how to make a severed finger, first I used mixed alginate powder with water to make a mould of my finger, it was difficult to mix because the paste was very thick and quick drying. When this set, I pulled my finger out of the now solid alginate, this felt very weird. I then mixed together parts A and B of the silicone and filled the cup. This took about 30 minutes to set. To finish I painted my fake finger a more skin tone and applied a fake nail, The final result was really effective. This task was really enjoyable.

Target: For next week I would really like to focus on completing my Alice research and character development. I really want these to be completed to the best of my ability and this may mean that to focus I have to work independently so I can get the work done.

Tuesday 15th September 2020:

Today was my first online session on teams and it went really well. Getting onto the call was confusing at first but I gave myself time before hand to work out the teams lay out. In the first online session I learnt how to use Wix to create a website. I had never heard of Wix before but I was told clearly step by step exactly what I needed to do. At points I really struggled but I refereed to the demonstration power point I had been given on teams and I worked things out from there. For my first time creating a website I think I did a really good job but it definitely needs improvements and I'm excited to see it come along and improve each week.

In the second part of the online session, we worked on a swot sheet, to start with I had no clue what a swot sheet was but as I was given the document to fill out I realised it meant strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. I was a little bit confused as I think I mixed up my skills with qualities. I definitely need to work on this in next weeks session and go into more depth with my explinations.

Wednesday 16th September 2020:

This morning we started in the theatre to find there were many safety hazards set up, we individually walked round taking note of the hazards we could spot. At first I really struggled to spot any obvious hazards. We then shared our answers with the rest of the class to fill in any empty boxes on our health and safety sheet.

I then volunteered to partner up with a classmate to move the ladder and rig a light. This was really helpful and I'm glad I volunteered to do it because I reminded myself of the important safety rules of putting a ladder up.

The group then gathered to watch the demonstration of how to safely use the tower. I didn't get time to climb the tower as we ran out of time but I watched plenty of demonstrations and I'd feel confident to have a go. Hopefully I can have a go next week.

Later on in the morning, we had another sewing session. As my target for this week was to feel more confident with a sewing machine, I felt really glad to be using the sewing machines again because I enjoyed it last week. We practised straight stitch and zigzag and the effects of each. I want to continue using the sewing machines because I've always wanted to learn how to use one

Thursday 17th September 2020

This morning was the morning of the read through, in which I ensured I had my Alice script and had highlighted the correct lines. I felt a bit nervous as I don't see myself as a strong reader. during the read through my nerves soon went and I felt comfortable reading out loud, I think I did a good job, I made sure to speak with a clear and projected voice.

In the afternoon, we all had individual tasks so complete, I worked on my character development. I asked my class partner (who is a year 2) to briefly explain and breakdown the questions. This was really helpful and I managed to complete a large section.

Later on in the afternoon, we completed more theory tasks in which I carried on with my character development and then moved onto another task within unit 1. I actually enjoyed this theory work as I really like working independently and getting work done with no distractions.

Target: My target for next week is to improve my swot sheet for the online session and complete any outstanding tasks and homework.

Another general target I have is to focus on getting to know more of my class mates, i really enjoyed working with new people this week and I hope to mix with others and have an opportunity to work with new people in a group task.
